moZART… according to Heinz Spoerli

As with most companies throughout the world, the Zurich Opera wanted to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the birth of Mozart in autumn 2006 by programming 4 pieces by Mozart, including his final work, The Magical Flute.
Heinz Spoerli wanted to pay tribute to the genius of Mozart by choreographing “moZART”, which opened on 3rd September, 2006 in Zurich. This ballet was presented as a “harmonious mix” of Mozart’s chamber music and the music of Finnish composer, Kaija Saariaho.
Committed to Harlequin
In 2004, Zurich Opera acquired its first Harlequin LIBERTY™ portable sprung floor. They then went on to equip their two rehearsal studios with the same floor (the permanent version), covered with Harlequin CASCADE™ vinyl, which was held in place with double-sided adhesive tape and hot-welded to avoid the use of single-sided tape on the top surface.

Director of the Basle Ballet from 1973-1991, then of the Zurich Opera, Heinz Spoerli, is the first Swiss choreographer since Jean-Georges Noverre to achieve international recognition. For more than 10 years, the dance company he leads has been dancing on Harlequin CASCADE™ flooring. |
