Harlequin AeroDeck Sprung Panel System
The development of AeroDeck™ is not only the result of introducing new technology materials but also utilising new insights from research into the relationship between floor quality and the health and welfare of dancers. Harlequin has additionally called on the preferences of dancers themselves to create floors they want to dance on. The company has been at the forefront in pioneering the modern dance floor and by working closely with dancers and researchers has introduced a number of innovations both in sprung dance floors and dance surfaces.
Some important features of an AeroDeck™ sprung floor panel system are:-
- Quick and simple to install, light to carry and with flexibility for re-configuration that is suited to touring.
- The consistent shock absorption of AeroDeck™ has been shown in independent research to significantly reduce injuries to dancers.
- ‘Area elasticity’ of AeroDeck™ provides ‘give’ or flexion over the section where a performer lands.
- Flexing of floor panels is controlled to prevent disturbance to neighbouring performers.
- Excessive rebound, (commonly termed the ‘trampoline effect’) is eliminated.
- Uniform suspension across the entire floor eliminates ‘hard spots’ typically experienced with wood floors.
- Remarkably quiet in use due to high technology composite construction.
Applications
AeroDeck™ panels provide the ideal sprung floor for touring companies or venues where the hard resident floor needs to be covered with a sprung floor for dance performances.

Design and Construction
Harlequin AeroDeck™ panels dispense entirely with wood in their construction to create a panel that is unaffected by moisture and therefore also suitable for use on outdoor productions. At the core of each panel is a patented structure sealed with a bonded GRP surface that provides inherent strength while being very light. Edged by a framework manufactured from re-cycled polyurethane the radiussed tongue and grooved pivot joints allow panels to interlock and be locked together using the patented Harlequin latching system eliminating the need to fix the panels mechanically to the sub-floor. Panels are laid ‘brickwork’ fashion on the sub-floor so that cross-joins do not coincide. Harlequin AeroDeck™ panels are supplied in two standard sizes of 2m x 1m and 1m x 1m and incorporate a series of circular dual density pads to provide the spring. Once configured and assembled to form the dance area, the top surface can then be quickly finished using a dance surface from Harlequin’s vinyl range such as Harlequin Cascade, Studio or Reversible - selected to be most appropriate to the dance styles performed.
Harlequin AeroDeck™ sprung panels are delivered pre-fabricated and ready for use. As an option panels can be supplied with a new specially designed lightweight storage cart.
